Overview of Skills-Based Mentor role :
Occasional | during class time, or after school | throughout school year |
JA Company programs are incorporated into various high school Business classes (Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Business Management Leadership) and are led by the classroom teacher with JA Ottawa support. JA Company also offers after school programs led by committed volunteer Advisors.
Skills-Based Mentors visit class for approximately one hour, upon request by the group leader, to share their expertise in a particular field, act as a sounding board for students’ ideas and provide feedback and insight into the JA Company.
We are recruiting Mentors with experience in the following fields to support in-class programs:
- Product innovation
- Human resources
Skills-Based Mentors are not required to create lessons or materials. With in-school programs, the classroom teacher will contact you. With after-school programs, the Program Manager will make the initial contact.
You will be provided with details about the JA Company prior to your class visit, and apprised of any hurdles the students may be facing. During your visit, you will interact with the students and/or a specific department to provide relevant and useful feedback related to your field of interest/expertise.
It is difficult to predict how often you may be contacted for your assistance since this is a new element to our program.
Class visits could be done in-person or virtually.
Locations: JA Company programs are located throughout Ottawa including Orleans, Barrhaven, Kanata, and Stittsville.
